In a key development ahead of Jersey City’s 2025 municipal elections, Council President and mayoral candidate Joyce Watterman has announced Reverend Tami Weaver-Henry as the final member of her council-at-large slate. The announcement completes Watterman’s diverse and community-centered team as she campaigns to become Jersey City’s first elected Black woman mayor.
A Legacy of Service and Leadership
Rev. Weaver-Henry brings extensive experience as a community advocate, faith leader, and healthcare entrepreneur. She currently serves as the West District chaplain for the Jersey City Police Department and chairs the Jersey City Women’s Advisory Board. She is also the founder and CEO of Angels Care Home Healthcare—the state’s first Christian-based home care agency. In 2023, she was honored as Police Chaplain of the Year by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.
Weaver-Henry expressed her commitment to the campaign’s mission, stating:
“I am honored to stand alongside Joyce Watterman and the Joyce for JC team. This is an opportunity to bring my passion for helping others into public service on a larger scale. I look forward to working with our community to build a brighter future for every resident of Jersey City.”
Completing the Watterman Slate
Weaver-Henry joins Kenny Reyes, a former Board of Education candidate, and Dave Carment, pastor at Liberty Church JC. She replaces Lewis Spears, who stepped back from the race to concentrate on his nonprofit initiatives.
Watterman praised her newest running mate, saying:
“Her unwavering commitment to service, her leadership in advocating for women and families, and her passion for creating positive change make her an incredible addition to our slate.”
Looking Ahead to November
The non-partisan municipal elections on November 4th are shaping up to be competitive. Other mayoral hopefuls include former Governor Jim McGreevey, Hudson County Commissioner Bill O'Dea, former Board of Education President Mussab Ali, and Ward E Councilman James Solomon.
As each candidate finalizes their team, Watterman’s complete and community-rooted slate positions her campaign as a strong contender in the race for City Hall.
