Floyd's Story

Dr. Floyd Jeter is a lifelong resident of Jersey City and a dedicated champion for diversity,

education, and community-driven leadership. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Doctorate in Community College Leadership (Ed.D.) from New Jersey City University, as well as a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Fairleigh Dickinson University. His  academic  and professional journey reflect a deep commitment to servant leadership and equity.

Currently serving as the Chief Diversity Officer for the City of Jersey City's Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Dr. Jeter advances policies and initiatives that promote equity, opportunity, and inclusion across city departments. Through the Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Board, he plays a central role in shaping a more just and representative municipal workforce.

Dr. Jeter brings more than 15 years of corporate experience from his time with Pepsi-Cola, where he held several roles and served as a liaison to Frito Lay for urban market outreach. He later transitioned into education, working nine years as a teacher assistant with the Jersey City Board of Education, specializing in support for children with autism.

For over a decade, he has also served as an adjunct professor at New Jersey City University, supporting the academic and civic development of future public service leaders. In addition, Dr. Jeter is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), offering guidance and support to those navigating substance use and recovery.

Dr. Jeter is deeply involved in civic life, holding leadership or advisory roles on numerous boards and committees, including:

Faith and family are the cornerstones of Dr. Jeter's life. He is a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and credits much of his purpose and perspective to God and his loved ones. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, meaningful conversations, and relaxing with fellow cigar enthusiasts of the Brothers of the Leaf Joint.

He lives by two mantras that guide both his personal journey and professional mission: "Failure is not an option."

"If your friends around you don't change, then change the friends around you."

Together with Joyce, Floyd will prioritize empowering local entrepreneurs, creating safe neighborhoods, advancing affordable housing solutions, and driving investments in education and environmental stewardship for all residents."
