In a major campaign update, community leader and lifelong Greenville resident Dave Carment has shifted his candidacy from an at-large city council seat to run for the Ward A council seat as part of Council President Joyce Watterman’s mayoral slate.

Listening to the Community

Joyce Watterman emphasized that this decision stems directly from resident feedback:

“Campaigns must be rooted in listening. Since launching my candidacy for mayor, I have prioritized hearing from every corner of our city. No neighborhood has been more forthcoming or passionate than Greenville,” said Watterman.

“Residents voiced their disappointment with the current array of candidates and expressed a strong desire for direct representation. We are answering that call by supporting a leader who lives in the neighborhood, serves its families, and understands its challenges and aspirations.”

A Leader Who Knows Greenville

Carment is a pastor, youth advocate, and longtime Greenville resident. Through his leadership roles at Liberty Church and New City Kids, he has impacted thousands of families, championing social outreach, youth empowerment, and community development.

“I’m humbled by the trust my neighbors have placed in me,” Carment said. “This race isn’t about titles or ambitions; it’s about responding to what people truly need. Greenville deserves strong, accountable representation—someone who knows their streets, struggles, and stories firsthand. I am honored to accept this challenge and grateful to Councilwoman Watterman for her commitment to grassroots democracy.”

A New Generation of Leadership

Watterman described Carment’s candidacy as part of her broader mission to build inclusive growth and representative government:

Greenville has been clear: it’s time for a new generation of leadership and direct advocacy. Our team will continue amplifying community voices and creating real opportunities for input and shared progress. David Carment will be the champion Greenville needs to move forward collectively.”

Election Day

Carment will face incumbent Denise Ridley (on Councilman James Solomon’s ticket), Pam Johnson (running with Hudson County Commissioner Bill O’Dea), Brandi Warren (on former Gov. Jim McGreevey’s slate), and Tracy Sims (aligned with former Board of Education President Mussab Ali).

The Jersey City municipal elections are set for November 4, 2025.
