In a significant development in the 2025 Jersey City mayoral race, Council President Joyce Watterman has received the endorsement of the Collective PAC, a national organization dedicated to increasing Black political representation. This endorsement marks a pivotal moment in her campaign to succeed Mayor Steven Fulop, who is stepping down to pursue a gubernatorial bid

A Historic Endorsement

The Collective PAC's endorsement underscores Watterman's longstanding commitment to community advocacy and social justice. In their statement, the organization lauded her as a "proven leader who has dedicated her career to uplifting her community and fighting for justice." They emphasized her "historic achievements and steadfast commitment to equity," asserting that she embodies the leadership qualities needed in public office.

Watterman expressed deep gratitude for the endorsement, stating, "I am deeply honored to have the support of the Collective PAC. Their mission to empower Black leaders aligns with my own commitment to breaking down barriers and ensuring every voice in our community is heard. Together, we can continue building a Jersey City that works for everyone."

The Road Ahead

As the first African American woman to serve as Jersey City's Council President, Watterman brings a wealth of experience and a track record of community engagement to her mayoral campaign. She is among five declared candidates vying for the mayoral seat in the upcoming non-partisan election scheduled for November 4, 2025. The other candidates include former Governor Jim McGreevey, Hudson County Commissioner Bill O’Dea, Ward E Councilman James Solomon, and former Board of Education President Mussab Ali.

With the backing of the Collective PAC, Watterman's campaign gains momentum, positioning her as a formidable contender in a diverse field. Her focus on inclusivity and equity resonates with voters seeking progressive leadership and meaningful change in Jersey City.

As the election approaches, Watterman's campaign is expected to emphasize her commitment to community development, social justice, and inclusive governance, aiming to build a Jersey City that reflects the diverse voices and needs of its residents.
