We are proud to share that Higher Heights for America PAC—a nationally recognized organization dedicated to electing Black women to public office—has officially endorsed Council President Joyce Watterman in her campaign for mayor of Jersey City.

This endorsement is a reflection of Joyce’s unwavering commitment to equity, justice, and opportunity for all Jersey City residents. As the first Black woman to serve as Council President, Joyce has led with integrity and vision, championing policies that make a real difference in people’s lives.

“Joyce Watterman is a results-driven leader with a lifelong commitment to public service,” said Eboni Taylor, Vice President of Programs at Higher Heights. “Her historic achievements and steadfast commitment to equity make her exactly the kind of leader we need in public office.”

Higher Heights cited Joyce’s leadership on key issues, including:

  • Providing property tax relief to protect homeowners

  • Advancing inclusionary zoning to expand affordable housing

  • Fighting for pay transparency protections for women

  • Supporting early childhood literacy programs

  • Expanding workforce development initiatives across the city

These accomplishments reflect Joyce’s belief that local government should work for everyone—no matter their background or zip code.

In response to the endorsement, Joyce shared:

“I’m deeply honored to have the support of Higher Heights for America. Their mission to uplift Black women in leadership is one I share. Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive Jersey City where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”

With strong support both locally and nationally, Joyce is ready to continue the work of building a city that puts people first. Let’s move Jersey City forward—together.
